The Stadium Course at the TPC at Sawgrass is home to The Players Championship, the PGA Tour's flagship event, and is widely regarded as one of the toughest golf courses in the world. It is best known, though, for its signature hole, the par-3, 132-yard 17th, known simply as the "Island Green", one of golf's most recognizable and difficult holes.

Spanish Bay recalls the original Scottish concept of the game golf, established over five hundred years ago. This was the intention of the design team, Robert Trent Jones Jr., Tom Watson and Sandy Tatum, in their creation of a true links golf course. Links is an old Scottish word for sandy wasteland, usually near the sea, with bristly grasses and ever prevailing wind. The Links at Spanish Bay are so authentic that even the Monterey coastline mirrors the rugged, natural beauty of Scotland.

"The Home of Golf" where the game was first played 600 years ago; it remains a real test of golf for today's champions. The people who played a major role in shaping it are Daw Anderson (1850s), Old Tom Morris (1860s- 1900) and Dr Alister Mackenzie (1930s). The course is known for its particular physical features including 112 bunkers, some of which are especially famous e.g. 'Hell' on the long 14th, 'Strath' on the short 11th and the Road Bunker at what is probably the most famous golf hole in the world, the 17th or Road Hole (so called because a road - which is in play - runs hard against the back edge of the green).

The championship course is highlighted with cross bunkers and interwoven along terraced hillsides with watercourses slowly spilling over aging stone walls into narrow finger-lakes and channels. The front nine resembles open and rolling parkland with widely scattered trees and ending with a descending par 4 to a peninsula green. The 9th tee is cut high into a terraced hillside providing sweeping views. The back nine is distinctly representative of Italy's rural farmland, providing a strong contrast to the earlier parkland holes.

Elevation changes of over 12 meters are found on several holes with the most dramatic being hole #8. Many of the holes either play along the existing canal, around manmade lakes or over the spectacular 50-meter deep quarry, a unique feature of Sheshan.
